Qdos Charity Visit

Over the Christmas period, Qdos helped to raise money for Shooting Star CHASE hospice, a charity aiding children and teenagers not expected to reach their 19th birthday and their families.

Qdos Charity Visit

With £1 given to the charity for every policy sold, various online donations via our JustGiving page and a series of games and quizzes being played for donations amongst the Qdos staff, we managed to raise a total of £3261.46 for this well deserving charity!

A few of the Qdos staff went to visit the Shooting Star CHASE hospice in Surrey to see what it was all about and to present the donation. Greeted with friendly smiles we took a tour of the hospice, from the mesmerising sensory room to the enchanting sounds of music therapy. The hospice was abundant with colour and friendly faces, and with such a homely feel it was easy to forget the real cause of the hospice.

The children’s hospice helps over 600 families living in western London, Surrey and West Sussex, making every day count for these families by being there on every step of their journey. Families can receive their support completely free of charge 365 days a year in their own homes and communities or at the hospices themselves.

When times are particularly tough for these families, Shooting Star CHASE can provide a ‘Hospice at Home’ service, vital in helping very sick children stay at home longer or leave hospital sooner, well-deserved breaks by giving a home from home for the children, day care and special activities, care at the end of a child or teenager’s life and even bereavement support.

We were most surprised, however, that the care is not just for the child or teenager with a life limiting condition, but also for the siblings and family who need support themselves. The hospice arrange fun days out for siblings to provide them with some time away from their troubles and to talk and play with other children going through the same thing. They are also encouraged to share their feelings in a controlled environment through music, art and play. The hospice also provides rooms for the families to stay in at the hospice particularly at the end of a child’s life, when being apart is a difficult prospect, and a quiet place for the families to grieve for as long as they need.

With no guaranteed Government funding, the hospice must raise £23,000 every day to provide their vital services. If you would like to find out more or donate, you can do so by visiting www.shootingstarchase.org.uk/donate
